Free breakfast and lunch at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools this summer

Most children cannot wait for school to be out in June. However, for some parents, when school is out for summer, they worry about where their children will get breakfast or lunch. This summer fifty-two local Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) will provide breakfast and lunch to feed hungry children in our community. Some sites begin their summer feeding programs on June 17th, 2015.

Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does a child’s need for good nutrition. The Summer Food Service Program provides nutritious meals at no cost to help children in low-income areas get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months when they are out of school.

CMS’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered through the NC Department of Public Instruction. CMS is reimbursed for the cost of the meals served to eligible children. Children 1-18 receive meals at no cost through the program and all meals meet nutrition standards based on federal guidelines.

USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
