10 free things to do around Charlotte during Spring Break

Most Charlotte area schools are on Spring Break this week, and will start up again Monday, April 13th. Here are a few FREE things to do with them to keep them busy and happy. Make sure to follow each link to get the necessary details on times and locations.   • Bechtler Museum: Kids get into Bechtler for free during Spring Break, through Sunday, April 12th. They also get 10% at museum store. Accompanying adults get $2 off admission. Museum is closed Tuesdays.
  • Dr. Bob’s Sonic Workshop: Part of the NC Science Festival, kids age 7-13 will learn about the physics of sound, drawing from the legacy of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog. ImaginOn, Saturday, April 11th, 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Must register to attend. Follow link for details.
  • Songs of the Deep: Why do whales sing and olives float: Also part of the NC Science Festival. Learn through literature, sound, movement and experiments. Mt. Pleasant Library. Saturday, April 11th, 10:30 a.m.
  • Garden Steward: Kids age 8 and up, plus adults, will join a naturalist and learn about the benefits of plants in the garden, as they help work on Reedy Creek Nature Center’s garden together. Friday, April 10th, 10 a.m. Follow link for info and to register.
  • Build a LEGO UFO: The LEGO Store at Concord Mills hosts its weekly free mini-build. The project is a UFO. Tuesday, April 7th, starting at 5:00 p.m.
  • Introduction to Wild Edibles: Learn to safely forage. Sample a pesto made from foraged foods. Latta Plantation Nature Center. Tuesday, April 7th, 5:30 p.m. Must register. Follow link for details.
  • Victorian Lawn Party: Go back in time and experience a Victorian Lawn Party on the lawn of Dr. and Mrs. Reid in Matthews. Enjoy turn-of-the-(20th)-century activities including games, demonstrations of making root beer and butter and crafts; making kazoos and spinning tops. Saturday, April 11, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Musical Petting Zoo: Kids can look at, listen to, and try out orchestra instruments. ImaginOn, Saturday, April 11th, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Spring Family Festival at Carolina Place: Live animals, puppet show, crafts and games. Saturday, April 11, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Free admission to Levine Museum of the New South: This Sunday and every Sunday, the Levine Museum is free for groups of fewer than 10 people. Park in 7th Street Station and bring your parking ticket for validation.
